Winter in the Yarra Valley brings crisp air, misty mornings, and one of the most exciting times of the year at Truffle Valley — truffle season.
We are delighted to announce that our 2026 truffle season officially opens on 13 June, and we’re now welcoming bookings for our much-loved guided truffle hunts.There is something truly special about walking through the orchard in winter. The ground is cool underfoot, the scent of damp earth fills the air, and anticipation builds with every step. Wrapped up against the chill, guests are invited to slow down, breathe deeply, and immerse themselves in the beauty of the Yarra Valley at its most atmospheric.
And then, of course, there are the stars of the show.
Our truffle-hunting dogs Tessa and Rita are more than ready to get back to work. With wagging tails and noses to the ground, they eagerly lead guests through the orchard, demonstrating their incredible skill as they locate the hidden black truffles beneath the soil. Watching the dogs in action is a joy in itself — focused, enthusiastic, and always keen for the next discovery.
From Orchard to Table
Each truffle hunt offers a rare opportunity to see how black truffles are found, harvested, and handled, straight from the source. Guests gain insight into truffle cultivation, the seasonal rhythms of the orchard, and what makes fresh truffles such a prized ingredient.
Best of all, truffles uncovered during the hunt are freshly harvested on the day, offering exceptional aroma and flavour that simply can’t be replicated.
