Our Story
We are delighted to share our story in becoming passionate truffle farmers, growing quality truffles in one of the most picturesque places in Australia, the Yarra Valley. It all started with a decision to transition to living on the land in a beautiful natural environment. And it wasn’t difficult to settle on an undeveloped 35-acre block of land, which lured us to the Yarra Valley. We graduated from living in a caravan under a huge pine tree, to a living space in the newly built farm shed. Finally we moved into our lovely country style home with views to die for. Visit us and share the joy of just being in this magical place.
Our next project stemmed from an increasing interest, and then somewhat of an obsession, with intriguing subterranean fungi. So now, the driving force behind this family enterprise is growing quality truffles. This project is interwoven with our pursuit of the good life. The lifestyle of a truffle grower involves dedication, perseverance, and much hard work. For us, it has redefined the meaning of ‘work’. And there is an irrepressible excitement and enjoyment seeing the evolution of the orchard, from nursery tube tree stock to an orchard of stately French oak. Our focus now is carefully managing our precious orchard: carefully cultivating, enriching and maintaining an intricate ecosystem with a wholly organic application. We are proud to have created just the right environment for producing best quality Black Winter Truffles and some incredible Bianchetto Truffles.
One of the great pleasures in this journey has been training our beautiful labradors, Tessa and Rita. They have become ardent Truffle Hunters. Their infectious enthusiasm for finding truffle, makes working with them a delight. Their intelligence and willingness never cease to amaze us, and it truly has become a special partnership.
Our wonderful family have been dubbed the workforce. We love their willingness to ‘get their hands dirty’ and step in at critical times to lighten the workload. The support of family and friends has spurred us on with their encouragement and interest. Imagine the sheer joy of finding that first truffle, finally proving that the fragile, symbiotic relationship between host tree and truffle had been successfully achieved. We are now delighted to be able to share that excitement by offering truffle hunts in the winter truffle season from June to August. Come join us!
